What happens if it looks like it will rain during our photo shoot?

I encourage families to book a session at the beginning portion of their vacation. This way we have the flexibility to reschedule the shoot for another time while you are still in town. If we are unable to reschedule, our contract is voided and you are not charged for a session.

Beach photo sessions heavily rely on the natural light, even more so than any other location. Which is why I only photograph 30-40 minutes prior to sunset. This is because there is no open shade on the beach, and harsh contrast leads to dark lines and shadows on faces, which do not look best on camera. Not only am I able to achieve my style to get that soft look and bright, clean style that it is common in my work, but I am also able to get gorgeous pastel-colored hues in the sky once the sun dips down below the horizon!

The Florida weather can be unpredictable sometimes. We may meet a little early (if it is an overcast day)depending on the forecast so that we’re able to get the good lighting we need to accomplish my style of work ! If the sun is beaming that day, we may wait a couple minutes on the beach for it to soften a little. I would rather be early and wait a couple minutes, instead of arriving later and losing light.

Why can’t we book a beach shoot at noon?

I want to be able to provide you with the best quality imagery and when outside, especially at the beach or any place with a real lack of shade, I can’t provide the quality that I strive for and accomplish my unique style of work. During the hours of 11-3 during the summer, the sun is very high in the sky. This means that it will cast some crazy shadows on your face and under your eyes. The background will be so bright that you won’t be able to see it is a beach. All of the beach images you see in my portfolio were taken at sunset or on a cloudy day. Since cloudy days can never be predicted I always try to schedule these types of shoots as close to sunset as I can. This also makes for a less crowded beach!

What if my child isn’t in the mood the day of the session?

My friends, I get it. I have a toddler. We want them to be in a good mood especially when investing money in something that’s so important to us. Don’t worry, with many years of experience in photography, being a gymnastics and baton coach and having a little one of my own, I’ve got this. You’re in good hands, I promise!

Many clients worry about posing or their child not giving them their best smile. Please do not stress, the children will pick up on that and become nervous themselves.
Fun, happy, natural pictures make the best photos so please don't worry about whether they are in a cooperative mood. Some children come ready to move and run and some are shy and take a bit of warming up. I have a 3 year old myself, I have worked as a coach for many years, and I have been photographing children for 6 years now. Know that I will never yell or order your child to do anything, nor will I ever ask or expect you to. I would much rather have a happy child over a perfectly posed child. If my son has taught me anything it's patience. There are some tricks I have learned being a photographer. Bribery candy works great, (it's easier to spoil others children lol) but will only be used with your permission. I want kids to feel like they are having fun, and their pictures will reflect that.

It can help to have the child rested and fed beforehand, as I'm sure it is close to their dinner and bed time.
If you would like images of your child in the water please remember to bring a towel and an extra pair of clothes to wear home.

If your family is staying at a place that is within walking distance to the beach, I will plan on parking there and then we will all walk to the beach together. However, if the closest beach access point to where you are staying is a heavily populated area or if it is not within walking distance I will recommend a public beach access point for us to meet at that is great for photos.
